Points of Interest in the San Francisco Bay Area

The How and Why of the Bay Area

A Site by Bill Hawk

This site consists of two of my favorite travel experiences in the San Francisco Area. I always enjoy exploring sites and finding out that things are not always as they first appear. Some of the questions I hope to explain with this site is why construction on the Winchester Mansion never stopped, why was Coit Tower built and why are people amazed with what they see on the first floor of the building and the Pinko mystique associated with it.

The below map is the perfect map for how I visit the Bay Area. I normally spend a couple days at the very north end of the map and start with a in Wine Country and then head south to seek out the beauty of Monterey, the hometown of my hero and the greatest American author, John Steinbeck. I pretend that I can almost see Doc Ricketts walking down the boardwalk of Monterey. If I have the time I try and normally rest and relax in Carmel for a couple days. In between the two extremes I spend at least a couple of days in San Francisco proper and always the mandatory visits to my old haunts in Marin County.
