My name is Tessa Reed, I am a student and host of Aboriginal Accent, a weekly Internet radio webcast of Washtenaw Community College's Orchard Radio which is located in Ann Arbor, MI U.S.A. I have recently been accepted as a qualifying student to the Native Studies Ph.D. program of Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario Canada, where I hope to continue broadcasting Aboriginal Accent through Trent Radio. Aboriginal Accent promotes the music, news and views of Aboriginal people, which in this area is mainly the Anishnabek. I am attempting to broaden the scope of Aboriginal Accent by incorporating the use of Anishnaabemowin (Ojibwa language), in collaboration with the Aboriginal peoples of Canada and affiliates of Trent University, while simultaneously maintaining and developing connections with Native Americans in the United States, which will enable all of us to speak to one another through the Internet. This week I will be hosting a discussion about how the Internet can be used to promote the revitalization of Anishnaabemowin. I would like to invite you to join me as a guest in the Aboriginal Accent chat group Thursday, July 19, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Many fluent speakers and teachers of the language are being invited to this informal chat group. Everyone is welcome. Join the Aboriginal Accent chat room here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aboriginalaccent/chat If you are not already a member of Yahoo, you will be asked to create a Yahoo! ID and password. Your yahoo ID will be your chat room handle. Everyone should consider choosing a Yahoo ID similar to their own name so that we will be able to recognize each other in the chat room. You may want to set this up before Thursday so that you wont miss out during the chat room discussion. Aboriginal Accent is webcast live via the Internet. The chat room discussion will only be visible to people who are currently signed into the Aboriginal Accent chat. If you like, you are welcome and encouraged to call our studio to speak live globally, via the Internet, by calling (734) 477-8501. You can listen to the Aboriginal Accent webcast on Real Player, Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. by clicking on or entering this link into your Real Player location bar http://winesap2.wccnet.org:8080/ramgen/encoder/orchardradio.rm Aboriginal Accent is a student produced program of Orchard Radio located at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI USA. You may visit the Orchard Radio web page at http://radio.wccnet.org. My station manager, Jim Schaefer loves to receive e-mail from people who are listening to Orchard Radio. Please send a message to radio@wccnet.org stating who you are, how you heard about us, and where you are listening from.
